Baltimore Key Bridge Collapse

The Francis Scott Key bridge collapsed on March 26, 2024 around 1 a.m. after a container ship lost power trying to leave the port and crashed into one of the bridge support columns. “The bridge collapse around 1:30 a.m. ET after a container ship hit the pillar.”There were no cars on the bridge because the ship was able to send out a mayday before it hit the bridge. “Maryland gov. Wes Moore said crew on their ship were able to issue a “mayday” But six construction workers fell into the water because they didn’t have enough time to get off the bridge, and a Rescue team was looking for them for several days but didn’t find them so they cancelled it and presumed the six people dead. “The coast guard is ending its active search and rescue operation for the six unaccounted people who were on the Francis Scott key bridge when it collapsed.”

The people that were on the ship after it crashed into the bridge stayed on it for a few days after the ship hit the bridge, but they were okay because they were already planning on about a month trip so they had enough food and supplies for a few days. And eventually after a couple days they sent out rescue ships and rescued all the people stuck on the boat.

The state officials think the bridge will be rebuilt by 2028, and it originally took 8 years so that’s great. It will take a few weeks to clean up the bridge because it’s in the water and most of the bridge came apart when it collapsed. So the bridge should be done in about 4 years and they will re open the harbor.
