Who are they??????
Periphery is an American progressive metal band that was formed in Washington D.C. in 2005. Their musical style has been described as progressive metal, djent, and progressive metalcore. They are considered one of the pioneers of the djent movement within progressive metal and have also received a Grammy nomination. The band consists of vocalist Spencer Sotelo, guitarists Misha Mansoor, Mark Holcomb, Jake Bowen, and drummer Matt Halpern. Lastly, we have “Nolly,” or Adam “GetGood,” who is the bassist. Fun fact: Nolly and Misha have a drum program called “GetGood Drums Program.” Get good drums testing and also what get good drums are

What albums are there? What songs do you recommend?

There are 7 albums. The first, Periphery I, is called “Periphery,” and the song I recommend is “Jet Pack Was a Yes.” Next, we have Periphery II, called “This Time It’s Personal,” and the song I recommend is “The Gods Must Be Crazy.” We also have two extra albums called “Juggernaut Alpha” and “Juggernaut Omega.” The reason they are called that is because the Greek term “alpha” means “the beginning” and the Greek term “omega” means “the end,” so it’s kind of like the beginning to the end. The songs I recommend are “The Scourge” from Juggernaut Alpha and “Omega” from Juggernaut Omega. Then we have Periphery III, called “Select Difficulty,” and the song I recommend is “Catch Fire” or “Remain Indoors.” Next, we have Periphery IV, “Hail Stan,” and the song I recommend is “Satellites” or “Blood Eagle.” Lastly, we have Periphery V, “Djent is Not a Genre,” and the song I recommend is “Dying Star” or “Thanks Nobou.” I will put a link for each song:The Gods Must Be Crazy,Jet Pack Was a Yes,The Scourge , Omega,Catch Fire ,Satellites,Dying Star

What music streams are they on?
They are on your everyday music apps such as “Spotify,” “YT Music,” “Pandora,” and many more options. Even though they are not super popular, they can be if you help by listening to them on one or more of your everyday music streaming apps. Also, if you have an Echo Dot, Alexa, or Google device, you can play them at home or anywhere, really. They have their own merchandise, which is pretty cool. I recommend checking out their store: Periphery Store and their Spotify: Periphery on Spotify.

how do i know them?
the making of select difficulty <—- catch fire. When I was very little (I’m talking about 2 or 3), my parents are metalheads, and we had a CD in our car called “Periphery III: Select Difficulty.” We used that before we knew how to connect our phones to the car (the car we had was a Lincoln MK7, 2003). I would always sing along to the song “Catch Fire” and say, “Again!!” after it was done. I would always say this before the engine blew up (RIP CD because we couldn’t get it out 😭). Now that CD will be forgotten, but it still holds memories.

fun facts
I have seen them 2 times, and they always sound great and are really fun with the crowd.
They had over 6 discontinued members in their band before all of the newer people came.
Misha Mansoor made the band Periphery.
Mark’s guitar goes for around $20,000.
I have Spencer Sotelo’s setlist from one of the concerts I attended.
I have a prototype of Matt Halpern’s drumsticks (but only one).
I have Mark’s guitar pick that he played with.
Their 20th anniversary will be next year
Adam Getgood left the band (but he still recorded the bass tracks for the two albums he left on).
If you’ve ever listened to Periphery, you’ll know that Spencer and a guy named Mike Dawes played together for two of their songs acoustically. The songs they played were “It Only Smiles” and “Scarlet.”
The song “It Only Smiles” was actually based on Spencer’s sister dying, and he wrote that song for her.
The song “Zgylrox” from Periphery I is their first song, and it is 6 minutes and 32 seconds long.
they inspire me.

I love this blog post and I have to listen to them so time soon but if your parents didn’t listen to them do you think you would find them still?
Thanks!!I would have probably since I listen to a lot of new metal bands and since Periphery is a prog (progressive) metal I would have probably found them by now if it wasn’t for my dad! Also if you ever like periphery I have a band recommendation ad the band is called “Meshuggah” and they were the people who made the style of prog metal!
