Beans! …Coffee beans

The Beginning of Coffee

Coffee comes in many shapes, sizes, and flavors. In order to understand the present, you must understand the past.

A farmer named Kaldi noticed that his goats were eating these berries so he brought them to a monk. The monk said that they were works of the devil, so they threw them in the fire! I think that that’s a little much. Then, a smell rose from the fire, so they took the beans out and put them in hot water to preserve. They ended up drinking the water and were pleased with the taste and awakening effects.

People started planting coffee in the 1500s. Soon, many people from the east began to want coffee. After that, coffee was sent to the port of Mocha for trade. Due to its high demand, Baba Budan smuggled seven coffee pods to Karnataka to grow this crop even though it was illegal to export coffee at the time.

People also brought coffee to Europe. It eventually made its way to the city of Venice thanks to North Africa. Coffee gained popularity when drink vendors began selling coffee along with cold drinks such as lemonade.

Many Europeans began to enjoy drinking coffee while they were overseas it was even thought of as a drink for the intelligent.

Many years after that coffee arrived in Latin America, when, after an intense sailing weather and pirates, the French brought a coffee plant back home. That was before a rare plant disease destroyed the coffee fields of Southeast Asia. Due to that, Brazil became the world’s top coffee producer. Brazil exported the most coffee from 1850 to 1950.

How to Make Coffee

In order to have a good cup of coffee you will need two things: the right temperature water and the right beans. Although it might be tempting to throw your grinds in a coffee machine and walk away, it likely won’t produce the results you’re looking for. Make sure you slow down during the brewing process.

The brewing process has three steps: pick out your beans, grind the beans, and brew it. If you do that then you should get a delicious and flavorful cup of coffee.

Step 1: Pick Out Your Beans

Now I’m not saying that you need to pick out the most luxurious beans that you can find, but this is kind of the most important part of brewing your own coffee. My favorite coffee beans are Colombian and Honduran coffee beans. Mainly because they have a sweet and strong flavor.

Step 2: Grind Your Coffee Beans

Once you have finished picking out your beans, you need to grind them until they are a fine powder. Note: coffee grounds go bad quicker than coffee beans. You could either get an electric grinder or a manual one. Personally, I prefer a manual grinder.

In order to brew your coffee you first need to place your coffee dripper over your mug and insert your filter. Next, pour boiling water over your filter, completely soaking it. After that, get rid of yo

Step 3: Brew Your Coffee

In order to brew your coffee you first need to place your coffee dripper over your mug and insert your filter. Next, pour boiling water over your filter, completely soaking it. After that, get rid of your rinse water. Then, get your coffee grounds and spread them throughout your filter. After you’ve done that, evenly distribute water over the grounds. Make sure you soak all of them. You can pick any ratio of water to coffee you want, but I think a ratio of 1 gram of coffee to 17 grams of water tastes best. Once you’ve done that, dispose of your filter and coffee grounds. Now, you have a beautiful cup of coffee!

What Is In Coffee

Coffee is packed with minerals. A lot of these things have big names and you won’t even need to know them. But I’ll walk you through most of them anyway.

Tannin is found in TONS of foods that we eat everyday without even knowing. This includes most fruits, nuts, tea, and also COFFEE! They are an antioxidant and they help get healthier. Tannins are also put in many medications.

There is also something called chlorogenic acid. To be honest, I don’t completely understand them, but I do know that they are in coffee and it helps you lose weight and manage blood sugar.

Coffee can affect your insulin. Because of this, coffee might make your blood sugar go up for a little bit. According to the CDC, insulin is a hormone that help make energy that also can be used for later.

My Favorite Types of Coffee

There are an absurd amount of types of coffee but I’ll only tell you about my favorites. Espresso, Latte, and Affogato.

Espresso is often made using dark coffee beans that are ground into a fine powder. Then, they are put in a specific coffee machine that uses high pressure to push through coffee grounds. If you do this then you should get a coffee that is dark, with a layer of creamy-colored foam on the top. If you are like me and are too lazy to make your own espresso, then do what I did; buy a Nespresso machine. It makes a nice smooth espresso with a thick layer of foam.

Affogato is one of my favorite things related to coffee. It is a scoop or two of ice cream with espresso poured on top. I recommend vanilla, chocolate, or French vanilla ice cream.

A latte is one of the simpler coffees. It’s much like the coffee that I mentioned earlier. A latte is made of one or two shots of espresso (I do one shot), quite the hefty amount of steamed milk and finally, a little bit of frothed milk on top. Frothed milk is milk that has been filled with air and turned into a foam. You can add frothed milk (how I like it), but you can also top it with something like whipped cream or nothing at all. Plus, it’s harder to get frothed milk than whipped cream.

Pros and Cons of Coffee

Coffee might not be as healthy as water, but there are some components in coffee that make it a bit healthier. Coffee contains a lot of antioxidants which can help your gut health.

Coffee also helps your liver. Coffee helps your liver by reducing inflammation and lowering the risk of liver cancer.
Drinking coffee may also help your focus. This is good because you might be tired in the morning but you need to go to school anyway.

Some cons of coffee are sleep disruption and anxiety.

Due to the caffeine, coffee might cause you to wake up in the middle of the night or cause you to not fall asleep. The best time to drink coffee is no later than 5:00 pm unless you are driving during the night, then I recommend drinking coffee.

Another side effect of drinking coffee is anxiety. This is caused by the coffee blocking sleep-inducing adenosine. It also boosts your adrenaline. This causes you to get jitters and/or restlessness.
